Your Dental Questions, Answered

Dr. Laura Sutedja, Dentist in Surry Hills

  • We generally recommend visiting every six months for a check-up and professional clean. Regular visits allow us to detect small issues early, helping you avoid more complex and costly treatments later. Some patients may require more frequent visits depending on their oral health needs.

  • Dental X-rays help detect problems that can’t be seen during a standard examination, such as decay between teeth, infections, or issues beneath existing fillings. Without X-rays, up to half of the tooth surface may go unchecked. We typically recommend bitewing X-rays every two years and a panoramic (OPG) scan approximately every five years, depending on your individual needs.

  • We understand that many patients feel anxious about visiting the dentist. Dr Laura provides gentle, compassionate care and takes the time to explain each step of your treatment so you feel comfortable and in control.

For nervous patients, we also offer happy gas (nitrous oxide sedation) to help you feel calm and relaxed during your procedure. It is a safe and effective option that wears off quickly after your appointment.

If you have dental anxiety, please let us know, we are here to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

  • A professional clean removes plaque, tartar and most surface stains, which can make your teeth look brighter. However, it does not change the natural internal colour of your teeth. If you would like a noticeably whiter smile, we offer professional teeth whitening treatments that are safe and effective.

  • Yes, we treat the entire family.

From young children to adults, we provide gentle, preventative and restorative care tailored to each stage of life. We understand how busy family schedules can be, so whenever possible, we aim to accommodate multiple family members during the same visit to make appointments more convenient and stress free.

  • Yes. If you are experiencing pain, swelling, trauma, or a broken tooth, please contact us as soon as possible. We prioritise emergency cases and will do our best to see you promptly.

  • Medicare does not generally cover routine dental treatment for adults. However, eligible children aged 2–17 may access dental care under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). We recommend checking your eligibility through Medicare.

  • Yes, we accept most private health funds. If you have extras cover, you may be able to claim part of your treatment cost on the spot. We recommend checking your level of cover with your health fund prior to your appointment.

  • The cost depends on the type and complexity of treatment required. During your consultation, we will provide a clear explanation of your treatment options along with a transparent cost estimate, so you can make an informed decision with confidence.
